Life with Pain

The cut worm forgives the plow.
--William Blake

Would anyone believe that rain abuses grass, or accuse roots, hungry for a better hold on life, of digging too far into earth's flesh? Look closely at the small world of busy life overturned in the garden each spring. No ant there curses another bug, and no worm curses itself. Though they can neither speak nor think, even small creatures know enough to accept their pain as a natural part of life.

Why, then, should we waste time blaming others, or ourselves, for the natural sensations of life?

In the process of new growth, can we expect no pain?

Pain is very much a part of natural human life but must not be likened to the life of a bug. If only HUMAN life were that simple. A bug with a small brain simply knows the order and accepts it but for humans there is always questioning for that is human nature and no human escapes it. No one wants or even expects human pain yet there it is rearing its ugly head. it is human nature to need to find blame and reason for suffering and that in itself is the suffering. Human suffering is very complex and to relate it to that of a small creepy crawly bug is ridiculous. We can all get into the "all creatures have a purpose and are loved by God who created them" but to think of an ant suffering as that of a human...pain is a very natural part of life but I have never seen anyone worried about swatting a mosquito or a very annoying fly, yet a GENTLE and KIND human would not do that to a fellow human and cause hurt and pain. Yes rain does abuse grass (flooding), and don't weeds become the farmers enemy hungry for a better hold on life digging too far into the earth's flesh? If the small creatures could ever really be heard would there be cursing, fighting for survival (natural selection)?
Natural selection of life must be accepted, but this passage gives no credence to the fact that acceptance must be obtained before the pain of the "process of new growth" can begin. Just because a bug has a simple life are we expected to? To be HUMAN is to question and want answers, then growing and learning and perhaps having more pain with cursing, blaming and seeking answers once again. These are the natural sensations of life that must be accepted no matter where the blame lies but surely not by comparing Humans to a worm or an ant.
